We purchased this Champion 100161 6500 watt generator to use for work & play. It carries our 50 amp service travel trailer and our covered BBQ trailer with no problem. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think it’s pretty dumb to not have a gas gauge on a generator……. Otherwise, we love it! It’s a little louder than I expected, but it’s a generator, so unless I want to shell out thousands of dollars for a quiet Honda, this one will work juuuuuust fine!

Used 8 days in aftermath of hurricane Michael while power was restored to home. Working great. Would recommend to my neighbors.

I live off grid and work generators hard I also take very good care and maintenance. I have bought 4 different brads over the years and always have a backup generator also. I also live in Alaska so we experience very cold temps. I have been so happy with my other champion generator I decided to purchase a second one. I purchased this unit because it offers a true electric automatic choke which is very important in working with my solar inverter. Because this unit offers an automatic choke my inverter can auto start my generator by itself. Also because it has a remote I don’t have to go outside in the snow to turn it on and off to charge the batteries. I just received this generator as I had to get a third party to ship it to Alaska as Home Depot doesn’t carry this model in Alaska and wont ship to Alaska (bad Home Depot!!) I will update this review in a few months once I have run this generator but I am expecting good things.

this is a quality product all around! We wanted a gen that would power the whole house comfortably and I researched MANY units. Our house is around 1200 sq ft and we could have gotten by with a 5k, but, for the price and great reviews we decided to spend a little extra and go with this machine, glad we did! Setup was a snap, cycled the starter once to get the oil into the places it needs to be, turned on the gas, pushed the remote start and it fired up in less than 2 seconds! Did the proper break in, changed the oil and put it to a proper load test. It runs the house with ease! After flipping the interlock and supplying gen power to the panel, I slowly turned on all the breakers “except the water heater”. Went through the house cycling lights, micro, fridge was purring away as was my freezer downstairs. Turned on tv cycled my furnace and turned on a stove burner, she never skipped a beat!!! If we want to take a hot shower we will be mindful of the loads when we cycle the hot water heater for an hour then power it back off. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who wants to be comfortable and not worry about skimping on power in a house around our size, 6500 is ample power and the unit is quality. Champion you make one heck of a product!!! Generator shed is under construction as we speak!!!

I bought this for power outages,to run furnace and well pump, power hasn’t gone out since!!. But, I am now ready. Electric start is awesome.
Pros: Easy to Start
Cons: Doesn’t come with oil

Generator is great. Functions as expected well worth the price. Only issue was it had slight damage with a hole in the box that matched the damage. I suspect this happened during transport.

I finally got to test it out a couple of days ago and I am extremely happy with it so far. Surprisingly, the battery was at full charge right out of the box. I put the oil in and about a quart of Ethanol Free gas into the tank, turned the switch and gas valve on and pressed the start button and I don’t think it turned over 3 times and it was running. Plugged a light in and then my shop vac to make sure it was making power. Works like a charm. I didn’t want to let it just set there until we actually needed it to then find out it would not start or would not make power. Absolutely OK at this point. Seems to be a well built unit and worth the money.

I love everything about my new Champion generator. Starts easy, runs smooth, easy to service ( oil change, filter, spark plug, etc. ) If I had to change anything on it I would add a fuel level gauge. But that’s it, perfect otherwise. Thank you Champion for making such a great product. Will be buying your log spliter this fall.

Finally a 50 amp generator.Have had three 4000-4500 watt generators before but they just wouldn’t run everything in the camper.Bought a honda 7000 and have been having problems with it when its over 80 degrees outside.I was waiting for a 50amp generator and have had no issues from any champion i have had before.Used one to power my roof air and drop cord in my big truck for years.Sat outside behind the sleeper for years in all types of weather with zero problems.Had 4000 hrs on my remote start 4500 and gave it to a friend for his camper still working.I expect no problems with this one.
Pros: Dependable, Easy to Start, Good Power Output
Emery100 –
So far so good runs great smooth running love it.

I do a lot of work with tools and equipment, and I can tell you that this is a very well built machine. The instructions were top notch, it was easy to set up, and started up immediately. The only negative is that – in spite of Champion including a page offering product assistance & support – when I contacted them (via ‘contact us’) with a question about the propane connection they completely ignored it.
Pros: Easy to Start, Good Power Output, Quiet

When we got the generator home and opened the box, we found everything was there and the instructions were very easy to follow. It was nice that the oil and an appropriate size funnel was included and ready to use for adding oil to generator. The battery cables were easy to connect, however the position of them make it a risk to catch on objects that may be close while wheeling/moving the generator. It’s a little thing we’ll have to watch for as the wires curve outward and outside of the frame dimensions of unit. Not a real biggie, but weird placement angle for wires to remain. On inspection of entire unit before trying to start we found small scratches along one frame corner up the length of the metal. Those scratches matched up to the large staples that were used for the box and so the packaging of the unit could be improved by protecting the framing with simple bubble wrap or other foam on potential contact points. Not a biggie but the finish being breached to the bare metal increases risk of early rusting of frame as we live in humid FL. Once generator filled with fuel, we pushed the button and the unit fired immediately and that was great! The remote start fob comes with a really nice sized clip to attach to a belt loop or other object so it doesn’t get lost. The unit responded to the remote signal from quite a distance and that will be nice to turn it on and off from inside our RV. We then fired the generator up with the push button start and that worked very good as well. Next tried the pull start and it took two pulls to start initially and then each subsequent restart with pulls it fired each time on first pull. We took the unit out to our 50amp 5th Wheel RV, fired up the generator, plugged in the RV and it ran two of three roof A/C units and the microwave! Once we’re on the road we should be able to run everything in our rig. We’re happy with the purchase and are please we choose the remote start.
Pros: Easy to Start, Good Power Output
Cons: Battery wire connections, Very Loud

I purchased this portable unit to power our 5th wheel when we boondock (Dry Camp). Our unit needs a larger wattage generator as we have a residential fridge and two A/C units to run at our peak usage. The remote start is a good feature but haven’t used it on site.
Pros: Dependable, Easy to Start, Good Power Output
Cons: 74 Decibels is a bit loud
