‘GENERAC” and The Bulkra have come up with the perfect secondary generator for every homeowner ! So nice that it is small and quiet enough for you to use on your porch, or carry it to the deck. The KOOL part is that this will power up your cell phone or tablets and hot plate to cook and keep up with news and family when power is out !! Also great for RVs as it is light enough to carry around and keep you 12 volt system hot ! And power your TVs out in the woods ! I love it !! USB, 12 volt and 120 volt ports !
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Good Size & Weight, Sturdy, usb and battery charging

I just returned from a 14 day camping/ fishing trip in the mountains of BC. I was camped on a lake in an two compartment Oz tent a 2 hour drive from the closest town. I have owned a 4,000 watt Generac for 19 years. The GP2200i performed flawlessly meeting Generac expectations.. 1) Very reasonably priced.i considered paying almost double for a competitor’s product … glad I did not. 2) Easy to handle when moving it. 3) Starts immediately every time with usually one pull with the choke “On” and then switched to “Run”. 4) Very fuel efficient running on 94 octane. 5) Operated most of the time in “Econo” mode to power a 3 cu ft refrigerator (150 watt) in my tent kitchen. Regular mode would stall under such a small load (<10%) until I wised up. Two five lb ice blocks in a cooler melt pretty fast in warm weather. The GP2200i re-froze water every day in two ice cream buckets for the cooler. The cooler remained conveniently in the tent for most of the trip. 6) Very quiet ... we could carry on a conversation standing next to it. Works great charging 12v batteries, both vehicle and deep cycle for boats. Used it to recharge smartphone through USB. 7) A 12v deep cycle battery powered a 750 watt inverter to make 120v to run the frig at night if desired. 8) My truck alternator died on the road two hours from camp. I charged the battery two times before it died. All in all excellent peoduct!

Bought this generator after storm hit central Wisconsin in mid July. I ran the generator for 6 days straight keeping my freezer, refrigerator and some lights, until the power came back on.I am very impressed how quiet it ran ,and without any problems .Good product.!

The delivery was perfect and the generac GP22001 still didn’t had be used for long but we did tested and is working , Thankyou so much

Love it, not loud ,light did exactly what we needed it to do! Highly recommend

It started right up after 2 pulls. It is probably the most quietest Generator I have ever used. And if you turn on “economy” it is even quieter yet. The generator weighs 48 lbs. before adding gas and oil. I used every bit of the container of oil that came with it. I had to unscrew 2 screws to remove the side maintenance door. If the oil gets low, the generator will shut off. The spark plug door is right on top of the generator and is easy to access. I don’t have many outlets in my garage so I’ve already used the generator to run my saw, drill and radio. I’ve also used it to plug in my electric weed eaters, so that I don’t have to wrestle with long extension cords. It’s ready to fire up to run my sump pump and refrigerator when my power goes out this summer, because I always lose power several times during the summer season. With 1700 watts of power, this generator can handle almost every need of mine.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Good Size & Weight, Sturdy

This product has been great. We used it at a Big 10 Football tailgate. Ran the thing on eco mode for several hrs running a crock pot, charging iPhones, etc. We set the unit about 10 feet away and you basically could not even hear it.

Literally. Put gas in. Pulled 1x. Started right up. Used to put up a bat house on a brick wall using hammer drill. Quiet enough. Steady power. Easy to lug around. I’m satisfied and looking for other projects.

I purchased a 2200 Suitcase Generac generator in August 2019. I am pleased with the product, the cost compared to other quality generators was excellent. The weight is perfect and I have already used it more than my bulky 5500 generator that was too heavy to lift. It has the power to run my camper and it powers up a small cabin with lights, fans, and small appliances. I would recommend this product.

I recommend on using recreational Fuel in all gasoline portable equipment. And if you are going to let it sit for an extended amount of time , run a stabilizing additive In the fuel tank and start engine for about a minute or so. To be on the safe side if the unit is not going to be in service for months I would drain fuel tank then start engine to run fuel out of all lines and also drain carburetor fuel bowl.
Judy222 –
Unit appears well built and sturdy. Fired right up and ran my initial tests just fine. Not quite as quiet as I had hoped, but certainly within the range of acceptable. Will see how it works when it gets real exercise at the next power outage.

I unboxed it. Read the owners manual. Popped the side panel off to add oil and gazed at the impressive workmanship of this unit. Put provided oil into it. Put gas into it. Turned the switch to start. Pulled the started cord and was rewarded by the sweet sound of a perfectly tuned 4-stroke gas engine on the first pull. I tested output by plugging in the nearest electrical device which was my shop vac. It fired right up. I’m impressed. Now waiting for Dorian to get here. Bring it! I’m ready.
Muham57 –
This gas model is perfect for me except, I wish you had a model just like this that runs off of propane instead of gasoline. Gas spoils over time, propane won’t. Thanks!!
Oliver88 –
Great machine. I was shopping and considered a Honda. But this generator is of good quality and quiet. Better value for the dollar with a solid name. Ready for hurricane season 2020.
Roser9 –
Bought the unit after my Honda 2k died. Price for new Honda a bit high for us. Picked up the Generac. Unpacked, preped and it started on first pull. Very quiet even when had it at 80% load. Been running it for a couple of weeks now very pleased. Excellent output, quiet and first pull start. Nice features as well.
bobo6wr9 –
The Generac 2200i has been running strong so far. Sure, it’s not as quiet as the Honda or, as expensive. As long as it keeps powering my stuff I’ll be plenty satisfied with this little unit. Easy to set-up, easy to start, easy to transport, and seems pretty rugged. Definitely recommended!
Gabreal4821 –
Started up 1st time without any problem. It was reasonably quiet. Be sure to turn off economy mode, and set gas cap to ON before starting. Had some issues where after starting and running for 3 – 5 minutes it would sputter and stop. I had to fiddle with gas cap to get it to run smoothly
Lawrence6 –
I bought one of these used and according to the emission sticker it’s 18 months old. First thing I did was run it for 9 hours with various motor loads. Even though the manual says not to run induction motor loads in economy mode, the step motor picked up the load very quickly and efficiently. So I think I used about 3 quarts of gas in 9 hours. I’m going over it carefully. The intake valve was fine, but the exhaust valve was way too tight. Easily adjusted. Having the operators manual and the parts lists online is great, but having a real Generac Diagnostic and Repair Manual would be nice, too. Think maybe we can get one of those for this model some day?

Just unboxed my new 2200i, filled it with oil and gas, then fired it up. It started on the third pull. Haven’t put it to use yet as I purchased it for house boating to run a C-Pap machine for a family member. Runs quietly enough, doesn’t weigh too much and is a bargain for the money. Also like the fact it’s American made. K.

Very easy starting and quiet. It’s a perfect for my need. We are expecting power outages later this summer and I need to keep our fridges running.
Austinrim –
Works great so far. Won’t be able to say for sure for another 5 years or so but so far it looks as though my half price gamble vs the top brand may just pay off. Ran this one head to head against a red one during a houseboat trip and can say that it’s just as quiet, has very similar fuel economy and puts out the same power… at almost exactly half the price. So, if it lasts more than half as long I’ll chalk it up as a win.

Needed a backup and bug out generator. I’ve had to evacuate twice for hurricanes in 3 years. Had a generator, but fuel was an issue after the storm – hard to get. This model is big enough to run my new fridge (very low power) and even do some basic amenities and to charge a phone and other things. I put in the oil and was pleased at the toolkit and funnel provided. Nice touch. Put in a cup of ethanol free gas (89) treated with Sea Foam and that puppy literally started on one pull. Very smooth and quiet. Tested all the plugs – all good. Took the rest of the pint of oil (supplied) after it ran 10 minutes. Very slick design. The out of oil cutoff is brilliant. It has features really designed to make this a brilliant camping/event solution. Would like to see instructions to purge the carb bowl added to the manual, and the registration site is register.generac.com, not what it says on the manual. I have a great little backup that is quiet enough to take camping or to events. Really a sweet little generator.

Nice compact unit, not too heavy so easy to manouver. It is quite quiet you can stand adjacent and carry out a normal conversation. Nice that it has 12v oulet, usb outlets as well as an eco mode. Starts well in the cold so far(-6 C )4 pulls. . Comes with everything you need except gas and an extension cord.

I purchased this on 10/05/2019. I bought this to run a couple of rental houses when the power goes out, instead of hauling my big one around. I have no problems getting it started but after 15 minutes of running, it stops on its own. I’m just running it without being connected to anything. I’m not sure how this is going to work when the power goes out and I need to get electricity to power on. Time will tell. The book says check oil but oil was new and just added. I can’t really say if I can recommend this at this time.

The photo shows this generator next to my ‘main’ generator. The big generator, which is actually rather small, is portable in the sense that you can wheel it around — with fuel it is over 200 pounds. The GP2200i is obviously much smaller, about the size and weight of a large suitcase, with a carry handle on top. With a full fuel tank, it comes in at about 54 pounds — truly portable. To add oil, you have to remove the side panel, two screws, for which a small screwdriver is provided. Then I stared at it for a while, as there is nothing to grab to pull it off. Finally, I popped off the spark plug cover on top, reached inside and pushed the side off. Some designer wasn’t doing his job with this one. A funnel is also provided to add oil, and you’ll want to save it. The gas tank is a surprisingly large 1.2 gallons according to the manual, for a run time of over 10 hours if lightly loaded. There is an on/off switch on the fuel cap that closes off the vent for storage and transport. Starting is easy, just set the control knob to choke and pull the handle, then set it to run. The unit has two standard outlets for single-phase 120v power. The available parallel kit is also single-phase, there is no way to get 240 volts. There is also a standard 12-volt outlet, which is made much more useful by the inclusion of a battery charging cable. Finally, there is a 5 volt USB outlet. One feature that is lacking is an RV-type outlet. That can be found on the parallel kit, adapters are also available for use with a single generator. This is actually an inverter/generator rather than a generator. The difference is that a generator like the one in the picture produces 60Hz AC directly by running at a constant 3600 rpm. As the load increases, the throttle opens, but the speed remains constant. This is not at all like your car engine. Even at no-load, an AC generator spins at 3600 rpm, it has no real idle. This unit generates DC, then uses inverter circuitry to convert that to AC. The DC generator head can run at any speed. If the unit is set to ‘economy on’, the engine will throttle down to whatever speed will carry the electrical load, all the way down to true idle. This can save a lot of fuel and noise. If large transient loads ( electric motors ) are anticipated, then set economy to off, and the unit will run more like a regular generator, never dropping all the way to idle. For a test, I used it to power a large freezer for a while. It did not even huff at that load. 1700 watts is enough to power a lot of things – air conditioners, refrigerators, lights, etc. By comparison, my ‘big’ generator is rated at 4400 watts split between two sides, or a maximum single-phase load of 2200 watts. With a little care, that was more than enough to power the house for 10 days after ‘Sandy’. This little generator makes 77% of that, and you can carry it around with one hand. With the parallel kit, two of these can carry a 50% bigger single load than my big generator. The truth is, though, you’d be surprised how little power you can live on if you have to. In an emergency, or just out camping, fuel economy may be more important than generating capacity. After Sandy, it became almost impossible to find fuel, and my small but efficient setup turned out to be perfect. This little generator could run for days off a 5-gallon gas can. The advantage of the bigger generator is that with a transfer switch, it can power up the house wiring. In an emergency, this unit could power things around the house with extension cords, but it is really meant more for outdoor ‘fun’ use: camping, tailgating, etc. It could also be useful on a boat. 1700 watts will power an electric chainsaw, compressor, or other tool for outside work. It is very quiet, especially at low loads, and is not going to keep you from sleeping at night. One thing that is not in the manual is that there is a fuel drain on the carburetor. A small tube extends down to near the oil filler; near the top of the tube is a screw that, when backed out, drains the bowl. If you set the machine to ‘run’ without starting it, you can drain the entire fuel system this way. This is a good option for long-term storage. The manual tells you to adjust the valve clearance one time after the first 50 hours, but doesn’t say how. That is actually fairly easy, you can find general instructions on YouTube. I can’t find any manufacturer’s marks inside, but with their larger models, Generac uses their own-designed engines. I can’t find any indication if Generac built this model themselves, or sourced it from overseas. I have seen many cheap Chinese generators that ran one time and never again, so many that I think that they are actually designed to do just that. I don’t think Generac would put their good name on a piece of junk, I have a better feeling about this unit. Everything about it seems well-made and good quality. Time will tell.

Excellent generator. It will meet my needs in California when we have power outages due to Fire Danger

I recently purchased this generator first to supply power for tools to build a bunkhouse. Second I would like to use it to power the bunkhouse when I stay in it. So I started on the bunkhouse last weekend and put it to the test. I’d say it passed. I ran a small compressor for a nail gun and a miter saw mainly. At first I ran a compressor that was at the maximum amperage the generator allows. It overloaded the generator and it shut down. I wasn’t upset. I had a smaller compressor available and used that. So I was actually happy that overload protection did it’s job. After I let it cool down from the overload I fired it back up. Ran fine the rest of the weekend.

this is a great generator it is quiet gets best run time on market and it is affordable

Used to power my fridge on power outages with no issues. My only concern is that have to pull to many times to power it on.

I have a GP5500 which I had for years and no issues. So I needed something for tailgating and camping so the GP 2200 looked perfect for what I needed. It is a very good inverter, one pull start as well. We just got back from 4 days of camping no problems at all.

I bought this generator this morning, to replace my generator that was giving me some problems. Its so much quieter than the generator i replaced. It is lighter. It is also very stylish and pleasing to the eyes. The quality is outstanding. It is easy to start. Its also easy to add fluids. I love this generator! Im so excited to have such a quality product. I live off grid 100 percent of the time. I need reliable, dependable, and easy to operate products. Thank you Generac!

I live in an area of Northern California that doesn’t have problems with forest fires but that has had two PG&E intentional outages. I purchased the generator after the last outage and have not used it in a power outage situation. I needed a generator for a medical device as well as a charging station and something to run the refrigerator. As a 72 year old female, I also needed a generator that I was capable of using. The Generac GP220i fits all of those things. I read the manuals and spoke with friends. At 46 lbs, I can move the generator around as needed. It looks about the size of a large portable sewing machine. I followed the instructions and was able to put oil in the generator and know exactly what kind of oil I need for the next time I need to add oil. The generator has a light that tells me when to do that. It is a relatively small gas tank (1.2 gal) and that is an easy size to fill. I was advised to add a stabilizer so that the gas could be stored thus avoiding problems with the engine. It is a pull start machine and I was worried about that. It started on the second pull. Wonderful. Because of the smart engine, it will run at as little as 25% power and run all night for my medical device. This is a lot of money on my retirement funds and was worth every penny. I’ve never used small gas engines. My gardening equipment is all electric powered. This little generator is a winner. Easy to use, lots of info available to make sure it starts and how to maintain it. It is really portable and I can drag it around the yard (a big yard) for use with the electric gardening tools. I may be a novice with gas engines, but I am really happy with the ease of use of this machine.

I bought this portable generator about a year-and-a-half ago and I start it regularly it but when it idles it runs very very rough I don’t know if that’s normal or not you put a load on in this moves it out but at an idle runs a very rough with new gas cuz somebody please let me know if that’s normal or not thank you very much

Missing a few screws when it arrived and the choke and stop switch is stiff. Other than that I love it and it runs fairly quiet.
